ENDE.

Übrigens, so viel Können seinen Preis.

-----------

I am grumbly and try not to be and don't have a lot of success with that which doesn't really lift my mood either. Finally, I decide to work from the outside inwards and not wait for the sun to rise inside my grumpy shell. I start sorting the dirty laundry and decide to wash the nice panties first. Should I get dressed completely just to go downstairs to the cellar? After some back and forth I put on a dress, tights, cardigan (IF I have to do the laundry then I want to do it at least in comfy clothes) and brace the long, long walk down four flights of stairs to the washing machine.

Hearing the machine go on and the water run puts me in an almost upbeat mood. It takes so little, I muse and walk upstairs again - with a quarter of a smile on my lips. I love my place, I think as I do every time I look through the opaque glass panels in my door and push the door handle downwards.

The door. Stays. Put. I push it harder. The door doesn't move a millimeter. Push. Shove. Shake. The door stays as it is. SHUT. I cannot believe that on the way to finding my good humor again I have locked myself out of my place. Not believing, of course, doesn't make the door any more un-locked. One mangled hair pin later it becomes inevitable that people more capable than I should take over. Only - my phone and my cellphone are on the other side of the closed door.

My neighbor from two floors down laughs, hands me the phone and immediately gets to work by making me a strong coffee. Sitting in his kitchen it is the first time we talk since he and his girlfriend moved in a year or so ago. He's a really nice guy and we decide spontaneously to celebrate our being neighbours with a glass of wine soon.

Half an hour later help arrives. Actually, it's the same guy who saved me last October when my keys were stolen out of my mail box. I open the door to let him in and ask about his heart condition. The last time he was here, he had the heavy toolbox with him and the three flights of stairs almost did him in. He laughs. He remembers. He brought the light toolbox this time. Upstairs, he takes out what look like to be torture instruments, does mysterious things to the keyhole, takes out plastic sheets of varying thinness and jiggles them expertly to see which one he needs. I am so fascinated that I almost forget, why he's, why we are here. At last he is satisfied with one of the sheets, inserts it magically between door and frame and a bat of an eye lash later the door opens with a click. Hurraj, I'm saved - although I cannot say the same about my day.

THE END.

By the way, such expertise has its price. If you're thinking about loosing your keys or locking yoursleves out in the near future consider this: wouldn't you rather spend the ensuing CHF 240.- in a different way?

Happened as told, Sunday, 5.30 pm.
